Diversity in the workplace in the UK

In the UK, there is an especially strong legal framework which influences training courses and materials, and raises awareness of diversity issues at all levels of industry, business and education. The UK provides examples of detailed legislation which sets out parameters for conduct by individuals and organisations, against which all materials development and training courses must be set.

For example, the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations took effect from 30 April 2007 and made it unlawful to discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation
• in the provision of goods, facilities and services
• in the disposal and management of premises
• in education
• in the exercise of public functions
